In this lesson, we'll look at how to use the Quick Access Toolbar. The Quick Access Toolbar is a small toolbar that makes it easy to add your own commands to the Excel interface, so they are always immediately available.
Let's take a look.
By default, the Quick Access Toolbar sits above the ribbon at the upper left of your screen. It displays a small set of icons that represent common, useful commands that you'd like to keep handy.
To customize the Quick Access Toolbar, click the small arrow to the right of the toolbar. In this menu, you'll see the currently enabled icons appear with a checkmark. In this case we see Save, Undo, and Redo.
To add a command from this menu to the toolbar, just select it in the list. For example, we can add the New command, and the new document icon now appears in the toolbar, at the end of the list.
Newly added commands always appear at the end of the list.
To add other commands not listed in the Quick Access Toolbar menu, choose More Commands. This will bring you into Excel's option dialog box, with the Quick Access Toolbar selected.
Here you can choose from all of Excel's commands, organized into groups. You can also arrange commands into a sequence that works best for you.
We could, for example, add the Save As command to the toolbar, then move Save As up, next to Save. When we click OK, we'll see the changes take effect.
You can also add commands in the ribbon to the Quick Access Toolbar by right-clicking and choosing "Add to Quick Access Toolbar".
For example, let's add the command for Find & Select.
Now, no matter which tab of the ribbon you're using, the Find menu is always available.
Although the Quick Access Toolbar appears by default above the ribbon, you can also position it below the Ribbon. Just choose "Show Below the Ribbon" from the menu. Select "Show Above the Ribbon" to move it back again.
When you'd like to remove a command that's not listed in the Quick Access Toolbar menu, just right-click the icon and select "Remove from Quick Access Toolbar".
If you'd like to reset the toolbar to its original state, Select More Commands, then "Reset only Quick Access Toolbar" from the Reset menu.
