In this video, we'll take a look at some of the basic file shortcuts in Excel.
First, to create a new workbook in Excel, you can use Control + N on Windows and Command + N on a Mac.
To access the Excel help system, use F1 on Windows, Command + / on a Mac.
To open an existing workbook, you can use the File Open shortcut: Control + O in Windows, Command + O on the Mac.
At any point while you're working on a file in Excel, you can save using the shortcut Control + S on Windows, Command + S on the Mac.
To save a copy of a file with Save As, use F12 on Windows and Command + Shift S on a Mac.
Remember that when you do a Save As, you're working on the new file. The original file is no longer open.
To print, use Control + P on Windows; Command + P on a Mac.
You can navigate options in the Print dialog using the tab key, and open dropdowns with the down arrow or spacebar. Confirm an option with Enter, or Tab.
On a Mac, the preview image is pretty small, but you can use the PDF dropdown, in the lower right, to open open a PDF in in the Preview application.
To get back out of the Print dialog box, you can use the the Escape key. You can use the Escape key to exit any dialog on both the Mac and Windows.
To close a file in Excel, use Control F4 or Control + W on Windows. On a Mac, use Command + W.
To quit Excel, use Alt F4 on Windows and Command Q on a Mac.
